Good afternoon, everyone.
0:41:55
Today, we will vote on a piece of legislation that I am glad to have sponsored.
0:41:58
Intro February will require DOT to create a searchable map of every bicycle lane in New York City with information about bike network disruptions and the location of temporary bicycle lanes.
0:42:10
The map will also have information about the location of open streets, bicycle parking infrastructure, micro mobility share programs and stations, and information on how to report bicycle lane issues.
0:42:20
New York has expanded its bike network to over 1,500 miles of bike lanes including hundreds of miles of protected lanes.
0:42:27
Effective operation including predictable routes and trips, detours, and other provisions during disruption has to be part of the city's infrastructure strategy to really create this network to be more safer and more accessible and a means of getting around town.
0:42:43
Eighteen bike riders were killed in the first six months of 2023, putting New York on track to have the second deadliest year to date for cyclists on record.
0:42:53
Additionally, on June 7, the one hundredth New Yorker fell victim to traffic violence, marking the earliest occurrence of such a tragic event since 2014.
0:43:02
Thousands of New Yorkers commute, do business, shop, and visit this city throughout the five boroughs by bicycle each day, and that is deserving of the same information and alerts alerted to motorists and transit riders.
0:43:14
We must dramatically speed up street redesigns and use all of the tools at our disposable at our disposal to to continue to bring safer streets to New York City.
0:43:22
That includes piloting and implementing new technology and shared street designs, pedestrianizing open spaces, and increasing bus and bike lane networks.
0:43:32
Our city's bike lane network is a transportation system like any other, and cyclists really do deserve real time data.
0:43:39
It can prevent a morning commute from becoming a treacherous journey.
0:43:43
So I wanna thank all my colleagues and advocates, of course, my crew, the legislative team, and I really do urge all of my colleagues to vote aye.
0:43:51
