Today, we assemble to start our new term and elective speaker who will lead with courage and compassion.

I probably speak in favor of Adrian Adams a person of incredible grace and dignity, a tremendous public servant, and an elected official who has never strayed from doing what is right and what is the priority for those who need our support the most.

From focusing on green energy goals, expanding equitable economic opportunities for New Yorkers, putting children, family seniors, and our working class first to transportation improvements, small business help and advocating for our disabled neighbors and LGBT LGBTQ plus people.

This work in the complex and diverse issues we face are in constant demand of our attention.

And all of it made the council's agenda in just 2 years with Speaker Adams rising to every occasion.

Let me get personal for a minute and and attest to what I've seen in the most grounded way possible.

In accomplishments in fighting, for reproductive justice and abortion access and asserting that housing is truly a human right and being brave enough to take on reform within our criminal legal system.
