I just wanna give a great big thanks to my colleagues the majority leader, speaker Adams, public advocate, Jermani Williams, all the co sponsors, and for those who just spoke in favor of the override.
1:48:29
For the members of the press that are here, there couldn't be a stark contrast in what has been spoken in this room or in the press by the mayor.
1:48:39
As a lawmaker, we are called here to legislate on behalf of people of constituents And my constituents are people who live in Queensbridge houses, Ravenswood houses, Woodside houses, where the facts show that level 1 stops to proportionately target our black and Latino neighbors.
1:48:59
97% of the stops made by The mayor's new NYPD unit wore a black and brown New Yorkers in 2022.
1:49:07
It is clear here who came came here to make laws for people and who came here to make laws and convenience of the NYPD.
1:49:15
We were not here to make your lives easier as NYPD officers or any government agents.
1:49:21
We are here to make the lives safer and easier for the people we represent especially our black and brown neighbors and especially our siblings who are sitting here in this very room with fathers who have been incarcerated with brothers who have been incarcerated, especially our black and brown brothers.
1:49:36
And as an AAPI woman, as an immigrant, as a mother, I will never, ever allow my lighter skin and the shape of my eyes and the co opting of the model minority myth to weaponize APIs against my black and brown neighbors.
1:49:52
It is not acceptable, and we are going to continue to stand here in solidarity, and I'm proud to vote I both to make sure that we end solidarity confinement as well as how many stops act so that we have transparency and accountability because I did not come here to make NYPD officers' lives easier.
