Last May, when this council first passed legislation to keep more of our families housed, and eliminate the bureaucratic practices that emiserate and humiliate New Yorkers for the crime of being poor.

I talked about what it feels like to be evicted from your home as a child.

I spoke about the people I represented in my career as a tenant rights attorney.

And I promised New Yorkers that we were going to do something revolutionary.

We were we were going to start helping people before their lives fell apart.

Nearly a year later, that promise has not been realized.
