Council Member Joseph inquires about the methods the Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD) uses to assess the success of their Fatherhood Initiative. Mike Bobbitt explains a three-tier approach involving facilitated interviews, quarterly assessments, and evidential outcomes related to employment and housing stability. This comprehensive strategy aims to evaluate the program's effectiveness in supporting fathers' engagement and improving their life circumstances.

How do you measure success?
0:49:44
You know, you need your assessment?
Speaker 3
0:49:47
There have been 2 measures.
0:49:49
And under the current RFP, we added a third.
0:49:52
There's a survey that's conducted.
0:49:55
We call it a survey, but I'll refer to it as a facilitated interview.
0:49:58
So when a dad comes into the program, the case manager will sit down with him.
0:50:02
And ask him a range of questions, then include things like how often do you see your child?
0:50:07
Do you owe formal child support?
0:50:09
Do you pay?
0:50:09
Do you have arrears?
0:50:10
Or do you have informal arrangements?
0:50:11
What's the relation shiplight with the mom.
0:50:13
And then as dad spend time in the program, both with their case manager, doing their pairing skills, and other programming that an individual provider might have for them.
0:50:22
They return to those same questions every quarter that the dad remains in the program.
0:50:28
And when the dad's reported score, we have likert scores behind some of those questions, emotional engagement, financial engagement goes up.
0:50:38
The program has demonstrated.
0:50:39
They've met the outcomes of the program.
0:50:40
So that's the way it's worked for a while.
0:50:42
And we added, as I said, a third measure.
0:50:45
Which is these are anti powering programs.
0:50:47
So if the data is able to show validated proof was unemployed, is now employed, was homeless, is now found a a residence, they can earn an outcome by helping stabilize the debt.
0:50:58
So we'll say, any any 2 of those three shows that you've worked hard in many four ways with the dad.
