Council Member Althea Stevens raises concerns about program overlap within the Department of Youth & Community Development's (DYCD) initiatives, specifically referencing the safety awareness, crime prevention, and the work of various providers. She emphasizes the confusion caused by overlapping programs and the need for more streamlined, coherent approaches to service delivery. Stevens suggests collaborating more closely with existing groups to improve efficiency and visibility of these initiatives, touching on the importance of maintaining focus without being swayed by funding changes.

You know, I and and I understand, like and I know that you guys have been trying really hard around, like, trying to get everyone to work collaboratively and having the work be cross pollinated and all that.
1:19:06
But, like, it just seems so confusing because This all seems very overlapping, especially with the safety awareness and crime prevention is is doing the same work.
1:19:15
Very similar work that CMS is doing.
1:19:17
And then we also have the map program.
1:19:19
Like, everyone is, like, doing the same thing.
1:19:22
And so I'm just we didn't have to do so much cross pollination if we kinda, like, just did the work and not, like, had all these different providers and these different buckets.
1:19:31
It just seems very confusing.
1:19:33
And then we have all the acronyms.
1:19:35
So I feel like if I'm confused, I feel like other people might be confused.
1:19:40
And so I don't like things that don't make sense.
1:19:42
And so I really want us to, like, as we're moving forward, think about how do get to a place where it's, like, kinda not, like, all over the place because obviously, we all have the same goals, but it also think thinking about how we're making sure that, like, if there's if these are CMS groups, then how do we reach out to those groups to kinda work with them to get these contracts and kinda streamline it that way?
1:20:03
Because then you have, like, like, Montefi Montefiul is doing this safety and awareness and crime prevention.
1:20:10
But, like, that's not what the work that they're doing.
1:20:11
Right?
1:20:12
Like, it's just it's just all over the place.
1:20:14
And so I definitely want us to continue to think about, like, as we're moving forward, how are we kinda, like, streamlining it and putting things and buckets and, like because what happens is and this is the way the things have been for years with nonprofits.
1:20:27
We throw off these contracts and everybody applies by everything.
1:20:31
Right?
1:20:31
And, like, one of the things that I keep telling people is, like, when administration changes, doesn't mean that you have to now change your mission and your vision because we're chasing the dollar.
1:20:39
And so we have to do better.
1:20:40
Thing like, okay.
1:20:41
Well, what is the work?
1:20:42
Who's doing the work?
1:20:43
How to work with these groups to continue to do this work or strengthen it or move on on the things, but it just seems like it's just a lot.
1:20:49
And and it's the more we're adding on to it, the bigger the mess I feel like we're making, although we have good intentions.
1:20:57
I do not think I have any more questions.
1:21:01
Right now.
1:21:03
But I think council member, Joseph, has said it earlier.
1:21:06
I just really wanna talk about, like, with all of these programs and especially the pros portfolio specifically.
1:21:11
I think that there's a lot of good work there, but really would love to open it up to you guys to just talk about how do you guys think you can work with accounts as kinda uplift these programs in a better way.
1:21:22
And and and not just the knab and the appointments, but, like, all of these things because A lot of people just don't know about them.
