Fresno State creates a tailored pathway for students primarily because it's the only accessible four-year public university within a 120-mile radius, serving mostly first-generation students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Fresno State is the only four-year public option for many students in Fresno, Kings, Madera, and Antileri Counties.
- About 80% of Fresno State's students come from these four counties, and 87% are from the Central Valley.
- The university ranks high in the state for first time freshmen and transfer students applying uniquely to it, revealing a strong local preference and need.
- The program aims to provide a tangible pathway for students who are unable or unwilling to leave the region.

I I'm interested to know some of the factors that that led you to create this program in the first place and how this program and why you started in 9th grade, why you're giving the IDs, the discounts, all of these decisions you're making, and how they differ from some of the other models that this throughout the country?

Great question.
0:13:46
And I should have shared that at the beginning, but Fresno states is is as located in Rhinel Center of California.
0:13:55
We are within a 120 mile radius, the only 4 year public accessible university.
0:14:00
And so most of the students that we serve in the 4 counties, which is Fresno, Kings, Madera, Antileri Counties, These students are 1st generation.
0:14:10
They are also also sort of economic a form of social social economic background.
0:14:16
And many of them cannot leave the area, as a matter of fact, among the 23 campuses in the state of California, one of the as as as one of the 23 CSU, we rank number 2 in terms of first time freshmen who only apply to 1 of the CSU campuses.
0:14:32
So almost 13% of first time freshman applicants only apply to 1 CSU, and that's us.
0:14:37
In terms of transfer applicants, we ranked number 1 in the 23 campus with almost 45% of transport students applying uniquely to just Fresno State.
0:14:48
So as you can see from this data is that most of the students in our regions cannot leave or don't wanna leave the region.
0:14:54
80% of the students who who enrolled a Fresno State off from these 4 counties and 87% of all enrollees at Fresno State are within the Central Valley, which is neighboring counties to to to these 4 counties.
0:15:08
So that's why we need to create a a tangible pathway for these students because Fresno State is not for many of our students, for most of our students in Fresno State is the only 4 year public option for them to achieve a a bachelor's degree in a central valley.
