And really deeply appreciative of your outspoken advocacy on behalf of community composting, and I think it's so important that you're centering this topic and issue at your first hearing.
0:44:09
And I wanna thank the department's annotation for their hard work, you know, I think you all have been one of the most effective agencies in this administration.
0:44:21
And even though we are often complaining to you about a very large range of issues.
0:44:28
We appreciate your responsiveness and partnership, and and efficacy in general.
0:44:33
We have a a bill today.
0:44:35
Unfortunately, something got lost in the process.
0:44:38
So I think the most updated version of the bill was not correctly reintroduced, but the bill that we are reintroducing requires 25 compost bins in each community district.
0:44:53
These public composting bins are essential for New Yorkers to be able to compost on a daily basis when they're finishing their half eaten sandwich or when they're done with their half eaten sandwich or their banana peel, they should be able to compost it and compost it readily.
0:45:10
And that's why our legislation would require approximately 1500 public composting bins across the city of New York.
0:45:18
Prioritizing high pedestrian traffic areas such as parks, commercial corridors, transit hubs, places that New Yorkers are walking and passing by every day.
0:45:27
I think that you all have done a good job innovating with these public composting bins.
0:45:34
They are part of the solution to composting, to really increasing our composting rates city wide and achieving a 0 waste future.
0:45:42
In addition to the community compost, drop off sites, in addition to making curbside composting universal.
0:45:47
This is another way that we should help New Yorkers incorporate composting into their daily lives and ensure that everything that is compostable is getting composted.
0:45:57
The, you know, we are eager to to see this bill passed into law.
0:46:06
I really wanna thank again, chair of Breo, for their for his leadership and the opportunity for hearing on.
0:46:13
On this bill and would welcome if the department's annotation has any policy on the updated version of our bill that will ultimately be reintroduced.
