The NYC Department of Sanitation will fulfill its commitment to ensure every DOE school receives composting service, despite funding cuts.

  • Every Department of Education (DOE) school is set to receive composting service as part of a phased rollout.
  • The program includes education for custodial staff and students, focusing on waste separation and composting.
  • Students play a critical role in the program by separating waste and discussing composting practices with their families.
  • The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) emphasizes the importance of building a next-generation of composters through school education programs.
  • DSNY collaborates with other municipal agencies to promote sustainability initiatives within schools.
