It's been 2 years since the horrible, unspeakable twin Park tragedy, a horrible tragedy in the Bronx where we lost 17 innocent members of our community.

Fire has continued to affect our city at a troubling rate.

Last week, we had another tragedy in Harlem, 17 innocent people injured, including 1 fatally, in another e bike fire.

It's clear we have a lot of work to do.

First, we need to make sure we continue to tackle the causes related to fires, including space heaters, defective electrical systems, stow fires and now, of course, ebikes, which is a problem that has fully developed, in my opinion.

At the same time number 2, and especially in the housing context, we must create systems so that if there is a fire, people have the tools to safely escape.

Fires are horrible.
0:10:49
They destroy our homes, evicting families from one second to the next, and they also put all of our lives at risk.
