Solar installation projects in NYC face delays due to persistent and intensified supply chain issues, exacerbated by new federal incentives spurring demand.
- Supply chain issues have worsened since the pandemic, causing significant delays in equipment delivery and hindering the city’s target achievements.
- Extraordinary supply chain challenges have delayed over three dozen projects, with waits up to a year for inverters and other essential equipment.
- New federal incentives have increased demand for solar installations, compounding the problem and hindering the completion of ongoing projects.
- The issues have prevented an additional 15 or more megawatts of solar capacity from being installed.

In the past, The admin has testified that supply chain issues from the pandemic have been an ongoing challenge for the city's rollout of solar installations.

Is this an ongoing issue?
0:28:19
And has there been any indication that supply chains for solar infrastructure will normalize, or do you anticipate that these issues will persist for the near future?

Thank you for that question.
0:28:32
Yes, supply chain issues linger to the state.
0:28:36
In fact, it intensified since the pandemic.
0:28:40
And that's why we've been seeing delays, you know, and and getting equipment and the reason why we haven't achieved the target that we wanted to achieve.
0:28:50
I don't know if Steve you wanna anything.
Steven Caputo
0:28:52
Yeah.
0:28:52
If I could just add, I mean, these are extraordinary supply chain issues.
0:28:56
I know everyone is always talking about supply chain issues, but we've had to wait a year.
0:29:00
In fact many over 3 dozen projects, we're waiting 6 months for the type of equipment that brings multiple strings solar together, waiting, you know, up to a year for inverters, which allow the conversion of the energy produced in solar to actually go into buildings.
0:29:16
So this is it's truly extraordinary.
0:29:20
It's both a supply chain issue and tremendous new demand.
0:29:23
I mean, the the federal incentives have really spiked demand, which is a great problem.
0:29:27
But It's made it harder for us to get the projects that we've had in the queue done for a long time, and we believe that we would have had additional 15 or more megawatts done by today had those supply chain issues not existed.

Thank you for that.
