The new Gotham Health Center in the Rockaways is scheduled for completion on January 26, with community involvement playing a significant role in its planning.

  • The council member facilitated a comprehensive community engagement process focusing on trauma care needs.
  • A diverse group of community members repeatedly emphasized the importance of trauma care and shared the consequences of not having such services.
  • The health center's planning involved visiting potential sites with community representatives to gather direct feedback.
  • A spontaneous encounter with local constituents further validated the community's demand for trauma care.

Mhmm.
1:14:24
But to to your fellow council members, I just wanna commend you, majority whip, for having done a really beautiful process in the rockaways with the community to look at how we can provide trauma care.
1:14:40
And we heard over and over again from a wide variety of community members, how much they wanted trauma care, what the harms of not having trauma care.
1:14:52
I was very pleased to counsel member, took me and a bunch of community people in a van, and we went and looked at a variety of sites.
1:15:00
And I really liked the idea I THOUGHT THAT MORE HEALTH CARE PLANNING SHOULD BE DONE WITH COMMUNITY PEOPLE IN A VAN LOOKING AT DIFFERENT SITE and we the best moment, and I think the majority would would be too humble to tell you was she was out.
1:15:18
We were we were near the ocean.
1:15:21
We ran into some community constituents, and they were asking what we were doing there.
1:15:27
And she said, well, we're trying to figure out what is most most needed in this area in health services.
1:15:33
What do you think?
1:15:34
And he says, without missing a beat trauma care.
1:15:37
And it was the most amazing sort of affirmation.
1:15:40
Right?
1:15:41
We're we're just like walking along and he's there with his dog and a family member.
1:15:46
But sort of there's no replacement for listening to constituents.
1:15:50
And I really admire the way you did the process.
