The program offers flexible curriculum and technical assistance for English learning classes aimed at empowering immigrants, with funding and technical support for libraries and Community Based Organizations (CBOs).

  • The curriculum is designed to be practical and immediately usable, focusing on city services and empowerment.
  • Videos and training are provided to facilitators to support the implementation.
  • The program collaborates with libraries and CBOs to integrate the model into existing programs or launch new ones.
  • Funding is allocated to libraries across all three systems, with amounts ranging from $246,000 to $260,000 for the pilot phase.
  • The list of 10 CBO partners includes DSI International, Korean Community Services, and others, starting from February 1st.

And so for the 60 libraries, it this is a curriculum that is handed to the libraries, and they figure out how to implement and program within their libraries.
2:38:00
Is that correct?
2:38:01
I'm sorry.
2:38:01
Of Yeah.
Jasniya Sanchez
2:38:02
Correct.
2:38:03
I mean, our curriculum, right, is very flexible.
2:38:06
This this is a very practical English learning class.
2:38:12
Right?
2:38:14
We wanna make sure that folks said to attend these classes.
2:38:18
That they're able to utilize it right away, right, by learning about not only CD services and, you know, throughout, you know, throughout the city, but also to empower them, right, in, you know, as well.
2:38:32
So we provide videos technical assistance, which is training to facilitators.
2:38:39
Right?
2:38:40
And we work also directly whether it be with libraries or CBOs right, to see how we can actually incorporate this model that we have to perhaps the you know, already existing program that, you know, that they they have been doing, right, or do this for the first time.
Manuel Castro
2:39:00
And if I can just add, again, this is very, very exciting program for us to develop We've pivoted as as Jess described.
2:39:12
And it really and to clarify, we are funding these CBLs in the libraries to engage in this work, and we are providing the technical assistance they need to establish these these courses at their sites.
2:39:25
This is what the idea that these are trusted sites were newly arrived, immigrants or long term immigrants can connect to and build community, which is ultimately sort of what our goal is there in addition to, of course, learning English.
2:39:39
And just to answer your question, we are not at the hook.
2:39:42
That is a d the d c DYCD program that's at the HIRX.
2:39:46
Our hope though is to connect nearly arrived immigrants as townhome seekers to the classes at these CBOs and at the libraries.
Alexa Avilés
2:39:55
Can you provide a list of the 10 CBO partners?
2:39:59
And how much how much do you offer to each library
Manuel Castro
2:40:04
Yes.
Alexa Avilés
2:40:05
To to implement the program.
Manuel Castro
2:40:07
Jess can provide you with a breakdown.
Jasniya Sanchez
2:40:11
Sure.
2:40:12
Again, these are pilot programs.
2:40:15
So, you know, these had also been starting way into to the fiscal year.
2:40:21
So we have 10 CBOs.
2:40:24
We have DSI International, Korean community services like Olmena, law, life of hope, Mexican coalition, mixedeka, MOSTLONE COMMUNITY NETWORK, PROJECT NEW YORKER AND UNITED SIX.
2:40:41
AND THESE ARE THE TEN CPO'S THAT WITH THE PILOS THAT STARTED FEBRUARY 1st.
2:40:46
With the libraries, we're working across all three library systems, NYPL with about 260 $1000 with Queen's Library with about 200 and $246,000 and for delivery with about $260,000, you know, to be able to do this pilot.
2:41:11
And
Alexa Avilés
2:41:13
so 360 was for the New York Public Library?
Vianey Romero-Mendez
2:41:18
2 60.
Alexa Avilés
2:41:19
260.
2:41:20
So so between 240260 for each of the library systems to implement the program over a year's time.
Jasniya Sanchez
2:41:28
Well, from now until the end of the fiscal year, and we hope to continue this pilot for FY 25.
2:41:35
And we'll continue those conversations with our partners on OMB.
Alexa Avilés
2:41:42
Got it.
2:41:44
