63 sec

Council Member Tiffany Cabán advocates for simultaneous housing development and historical preservation in Western Queens.

  • She supports the increase of Western Queen's housing stock while protecting buildings of historical and architectural importance.
  • Highlights the Barking Lebanon Company office Pavilion as a unique, historically significant building in need of preservation.
  • Cites the building's distinctive design by German American architect Ulrich Friendsen as an exemplar of cultural heritage worth protecting.
  • Sees the Pavilion as embodying the dual goals for Western Queens: housing development for working-class residents and heritage conservation.
  • Urges colleagues to support this dual-track approach to real estate development in Western Queens.

Amazing.

I'll be very brief.

I just speak today as a firm believer that it is not only possible, but indeed imperative for Western Queen's to do two things at once.

Dramatically increase our housing stock and honor the history and fabric of our neighborhoods by protecting buildings of historical and architectural note.

One such building is the Barking Lebanon Company office Pavilion, a unique, the little known gem.

One look at it, and it's clear why the Pavilion has been praised by critics and his Dorian's noted German American Arctic Ulrich Friendsen's elegant design features and eye catching roof canopy supported by an innovative umbrella like structural system.

There simply is not a single other building in New York City like it.
0:04:38
And just a mile from the site of how it's north, the NIH development I voted to approve.

Last session, the pavilion can be an emblem of our dual track project for Western Queen's Real Estate, substantial development of new housing for working cost residents, and protection of our architectural and cultural heritage.

So I I supported hope my colleagues will as well.

Thanks.
