NYC Public Schools plan to conduct initial simulations in a lab environment with the possibility of involving parents or students in user testing.
- Initial simulations to be done in a lab, with potential for parent or student involvement in user testing.
- Scott Strickland mentions automated transactions but acknowledges the possibility of real user testing.
- Emma Vadehra highlights ongoing performance testing with IBM and considers the feasibility of broader system tests involving all users.
- Council Member Rita C. Joseph emphasizes the importance of adapting educational systems for remote learning.

In your future simulations, are you planning to invite parents or students to be part of it?
Scott Strickland
1:28:56
So we'll first do that in the lab, and then we could either have them be part of a team logging in in that lab environment, which is most typically the transaction loads are done again through an automated engine that creates those transactions.
1:29:12
So we could easily do user testing in that same environment.
1:29:16
To show that if if we had a hundred people and they all hit enter at the same time, they all got through.
Rita C. Joseph
1:29:24
So you're basically telling me you do have a plan.
1:29:26
Moving forward, New York City parents will not be calling us.
1:29:31
So the next snow day snow days and remote learning is here to stay.
1:29:34
It's not gonna go anywhere.
1:29:35
We just like we agree that Zoom, Google, Teams, they're all here.
1:29:38
They're not gonna go anywhere.
1:29:39
They're part of our lives forever.
1:29:42
So we just have to learn to adapt and adjust and operate the system so we can meet the needs of the parents.
1:29:47
Because you had a lot of panicking parents that morning.
1:29:52
So I think you were gonna say something Emma?
Emma Vadehra
1:30:00
Yes.
1:30:00
I was going to say in terms of testing going forward, so we're doing all the load testing, the performance testing, we can we can do with IBM.
1:30:07
We are still thinking through whether to do a full system tense that includes all of our users or not, as was mentioned, the industry standard is for the testing of the system itself.
1:30:17
Is to do the performance testing we're doing in the lab.
1:30:20
And it is a heavy lift and a big ask to ask all of our families and teachers to take that on.
1:30:25
So we're thinking that room.
Rita C. Joseph
1:30:29
Okay.
1:30:29
Thank you.
