Ahmed Tigan, First Deputy Commissioner, explains that the sufficiency of the $25,000 support from the Unlocking Doors pilot varies based on unit repair needs.
- Units have varying repair needs, ranging from minor fixes to major capital improvements.
- $25,000 may be sufficient for units requiring minor fixes, allowing rental assistant applicants to occupy them.
- More costly repairs lead to major capital improvements, necessitating more extensive tools.
- The Department of Housing Preservation and Development assesses units' physical needs to direct owners to the appropriate support tool.

And just for just for completely mistake, seeing how loud that the unlocking doors pilot, and please correct me, would provide a landlord with $25,000 to repair a unit if they accept a tenant that has a city fax voucher.

So what feedback have you heard from the industry.
1:24:31
One one thing that I've heard multiple times is $25,000 is not enough of a support or what would have you been hearing from that one applicant or others that you've heard from?
Ahmed Tigan

I mean, I don't have all the feedback with me at the moment.
1:24:47
Again, we have seen there are units that are different levels of that have different levels of need.
1:24:56
Some are very small fixes that allow a rental assistant applicant the ability to occupy that unit.
1:25:04
Some of the repairs are more expensive.
1:25:06
Some of them lead to major capital improvements, which are on the more costlier side.
1:25:11
Of the the the preservation work.
1:25:14
So that's why that we have both tools that are more discrete.
1:25:18
For the lower end, and we have more extensive tools for full building rehabs or major capital work.
1:25:26
And so whenever we see an owner who comes to us, once we have a better sense of what their physical needs assessments are, we drive them to the right tool.
