The cabinet for older New Yorkers comprises 24 agencies, including 2 Merrill agencies, and focuses on accelerating initiatives for older adults by breaking down interagency silos.

  • The cabinet meets quarterly, while work groups convene monthly or bi-monthly depending on initiatives.
  • It includes commissioners of the 24 agencies and aims to enhance collaboration and progress on projects affecting older adults.
  • Initiatives such as improvements in older adult protective services intake processes and ageism training in schools are highlighted.
  • The cabinet serves as a model, inspiring 30 other cities to replicate its structure to combat ageism and promote age inclusivity.

The cabinet for older New Yorkers has been mentioned in many of our committee hearings, including the recent oversight hearing on immigrant, older doubts that was held jointly with the committee on immigration.
2:03:32

2:03:40
That means the commissioners of the 24 agencies, and I believe that there's 2 Merrill agencies also part of the cabinet.
2:03:49
The work groups meet on a regular basis.
2:03:52
They meet mostly monthly and sometimes twice a month depending on the project and the initiative that they're working on.
2:04:00
The beauty about the cabinet is that these were all a lot of these projects were projects that we each add in our books Right.
2:04:11
Were affecting older adults.
2:04:12
And what we've done is break the silos, join partnerships, and accelerate the progress of those initiatives.
2:04:20
Right.
2:04:20
And some of the and some of the Manu, and very exciting.
2:04:24
But a lot of them have been just breaking down silos between agencies.
2:04:29
I mean, I can think of 1 wonderful one with DSS around older adult protective services.
2:04:37
You know, like, just just changing a little bit in the intake process, increase the number of of clients who can get a particular service.
2:04:46
And And it was things of that nature that we've looked at the training for young people in in high schools on ageism.
2:04:55
That has a expanded.
2:04:56
And it's initiatives that were already thought of that are no cost but added value and really accelerating that process.
Crystal Hudson
2:05:06
That's great.
2:05:07
You don't have to list them off now, but maybe you can follow-up.
2:05:10
24 agents.
Lorraine Cortes-Vasquez
2:05:11
And I will give you a list of the subgroups also.
2:05:14

2:05:15
Thank you.
2:05:16
Okay.
Crystal Hudson
2:05:22

2:05:23

2:05:27

2:05:27
The 1st in the nation.
2:05:29
And really, and a model.
2:05:32
And as a result of that, we are we have just assembled I think it's 30 other cities who we're working with so that they could replicate cabinets.
Crystal Hudson
2:05:43
That's great.
Lorraine Cortes-Vasquez
2:05:44
In in in their respect, active cities, you know, and the big challenge for all of us obviously is combating agism, you know, getting
Crystal Hudson
2:05:50
