The Smart Unit, already established by the New York City Department of Correction, functions as a schedule management and redeployment team.

  • The Smart Unit generates weekly schedules for facilities and balances squads.
  • It analyzes staffing needs to ensure a balanced distribution of staff across all facilities, including challenging ones.
  • The unit reviews and aims to reduce overtime, ensuring security measures are not compromised.
  • Its roles include preventing unstaffed posts and unnecessary triple tours, maintaining overall staff support.
