Council Member Sanchez inquires about the increase in curious injuries at construction sites, where no apparent cause was found. Commissioner Oddo provides statistics on the rise of such incidents and discusses the patterns observed in these cases.

  • The percentage of curious injury cases has increased from 9% in 2021 to 25.7% in 2023
  • Many incidents involve falls from relatively short ladders or trip hazards
  • The commissioner agrees to investigate further demographics about the affected sites

3:06:18
Do we know other facts about these sites?
3:06:21
Was there higher or lower SST compliance ins, site safety training, card compliance, do we know whether there were more likely to be union or nonunion sites, etcetera?

That's that's a 167.
3:07:05
That's around 25 a little more than 25% of this uptick and falls is under these curious conditions.
3:07:13
And again, the other pattern that the team has noticed is it was falls from relatively short feet of ladders, now they're they're trip trip hazards.
3:07:30
And just to give you some context, Total incidents, serious injury, or fatality.
3:07:37
It was 502 in 2021, 540 in 2022, 649, right, in 2023, the percentage of these cases where we go out and don't see a cause a reason, it's gone up from 9% in 2021 to 15.8% in 2022, all the way up to 25.7 percent in 2023.
3:08:04
