- Additional penalties are proposed for long-standing sidewalk sheds in commercial districts
- The initiative targets about 1,000 buildings with sheds in place for 3+ years

Sheds.
4:08:38
Sheds.
4:08:38
Sheds.
4:08:38
Sheds.
4:08:39
I know I know the administration cares a lot about sheds, are there any aspects of the get sheds down initiative as proposed by the mayor that includes increased penalties you know, taking into account the borough president Manhattan borough president's financial support, but are there carrots and sticks?
Jimmy Oddo
4:08:57
Yeah.
4:08:57
So it's Council legislation, I my understanding is some of the bills, if not all of them, have been introduced, council member powers, council member boughtcher, Bills.
4:09:07
Do you wanna go through it, Doug Kim?
4:09:09
Yeah.
Pierina Ana Sanchez
4:09:11
Fuck quiz, Gimme.
Guillermo Patino
4:09:13
I did it's 2 components of the plan that involve increased penalties.
4:09:17
So the first component focuses on local law 11 buildings.
4:09:21
So those are our taller buildings.
4:09:22
There's a universe of about 15,000 buildings that fall into our local law 11 universe.
4:09:27
And for those buildings, we want to monitor closely the progress that they make towards completing towards beginning and completing the facade repairs.
4:09:35
So what we're proposing is introducing new penalties, and we calling them milestone penalties.
4:09:41
So the first one would kick in if you fail to file repair plans by a certain date.
4:09:47
The next milestone would be pulling a permit to to conduct those repairs, and then the final milestone would be actually completing the facade repairs.
4:09:56
Those are milestones we would expect.
4:09:57
Local law lab and buildings said here too where they have where they filed the report with DOB and repairs of the building are are required.
4:10:06
And then the next set of penalties we're considering are penalties that would apply in certain areas of city.
4:10:12
So we're looking at commercial districts specifically.
4:10:16
And once a sidewalks that has been installed a certain period of time.
4:10:21
Right now, we're considering 90 days.
4:10:24
The building owner would start accruing penalties.
4:10:27
That would increase over time.
4:10:29
So the first increase would be once the side watch head has been there for 3 years, and then the penalty would go up again once the side watch head has been for 4 years.
4:10:38
So we're really targeting with this proposal, long standing sidewalks sheds.
4:10:41
So those that have truly been in place for an extended period of time.
4:10:44
So on average, our sheds are up about a year.
4:10:47
When we get when we talk about the 3 plus universe of sheds, we're talking about a universe of about a 1000 buildings.
Pierina Ana Sanchez
4:10:56
Thank you.
4:10:57
Any any other zones aside from commercial zones that would be targeted for the increased penalties?
Guillermo Patino
4:11:02
It would be local law, 11 buildings throughout the city, and then certain buildings and commercial districts, and still working through what those are gonna be.
4:11:11
I'd love to have that conversation with you as well.
Pierina Ana Sanchez
4:11:13
Great.
4:11:14
Thank you so much.
