John Calcagnile believes the Zoning for Economic Opportunity text amendment needs fine tuning based on community feedback.

  • Calcagnile says Queens Community Board 10 requested modifications to the amendment after reviewing it
  • He raises issues with restricted storefronts, amusements, home occupations, and corner stores in residential districts
  • Calcagnile notes most of Community Board 10 is comprised of low density R1 to R5 districts with commercial corridors
  • He says introducing corner stores in these low density residential areas 100 feet from commercial corridors is a hindrance
  • Calcagnile questions how the city can introduce corner stores in low density districts if the amendment was guided by existing zoning

It is a welcome change and a review of the text amendment and to update what it's trying to do.
6:04:17
However, I believe that as a the chair, clearly, 410, and the responses that we've gotten from our neighbors and community board community residents.

I believe that the tax amendment meets more fine tuning, especially the way we responded from the community board.
6:04:47
After we reviewed this this part, we did request modifications.
6:04:53
However, especially for restricted storefronts amusements, home occupations, and the big issue on our community board with score of stores in residence districts and all of the We do have an area comprised mostly of low density on 1 to our 5 districts with commercial corridors and do have all commercial stores and and other types of uses in place.
6:05:23
And to introduce this now.
6:05:27
I think it's a it's a hindrance something.
6:05:29
And then and then the important thing that the chair said earlier, this tax amendment was guided by existing current zoning districts.
6:05:38
So how could you turn around now and introduce corner stores in low density residential districts that are a 100 feedback from commercial mobility
