The council member explains that federal government involvement is needed to address non-essential helicopter flights to New Jersey.

  • New York City is part of a working group with the FAA and helicopter industry representatives, including from New Jersey
  • The group is discussing how to approach helicopter noise more holistically across the region
  • New York City has limited leverage over helicopter operators based in New Jersey
  • New York City is trying to influence New Jersey stakeholders to adhere closely to the over-water flight routes negotiated for Manhattan-based tours

And then finally, New Jersey.

So I went to New Jersey.
0:59:30
I flew on a plane.
0:59:31
I went right over Central Park in Brooklyn Bridge, park and governor's island and, you know, the doors off and so on and so forth.
0:59:40
What are you doing with the feds to advocate for the bill?
0:59:44
Because it ain't gonna happen by itself without the federal government.
0:59:49
New Jersey makes lots of money.
0:59:51
I've been out there.
0:59:52
I'm trying to stop it.
0:59:53
Local council member trying to stop it.
0:59:55

So we're part of a working group with the the FAA and representatives of the helicopter industry, including from the New Jersey side and officials from New Jersey DOT EDA and are initiating those discussions to how do we look at this more holistically and across the region.
1:00:17
We don't have the same leverage as we do over teleport operators in New Jersey.
1:00:23
As you know, the helicopters tours that leave from Manhattan all follow over white water roots.

Gale A. Brewer
1:00:30
I negotiated that.
1:00:31
I'm aware
Anton Fredriksson
1:00:32
of it.
1:00:32
Yes.
1:00:33
That's thank you for that.
1:00:35
And so we'd like to see as close in adherence to those roots as possible working in collaboration with New Jersey stakeholders.
1:00:42
We're recognizing that our our powers are limited here.
1:00:44
We can influence and and then And
