The council member asks if the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) could consider integrating the Downtown Heliport into the city's broader marine highway network, exploring uses beyond tourism and travel to East Hampton.

  • One of the responses to the EDC's request for proposals (RFP) focuses more on marine solutions rather than aviation
  • The council member encourages the EDC to think creatively and consider the RFP responses proposing unconventional uses of the heliport
  • The discussion highlights exploring the heliport's role in sustainable transportation initiatives
  • The potential to discontinue helicopter operations at the 34th Street heliport is mentioned, which could impact revenue for the Hudson River Park Trust

I mean, I is you have a new maybe you talked about this.
0:55:45
I was teaching a hunter today, so I had to I'm late.
0:55:48
I'm sorry.
0:55:50
You have an RFP out.
0:55:52
You have 3 or 4 people who are responding.
0:55:54
1 of them is more of a marine type response.
0:55:58
Is that something that you could take seriously?
0:56:01
I know you can't talk about it.
0:56:02
It's an RFP.
0:56:03
You gotta wait to see what happens.
0:56:05
But I'm just saying, could you be could you consider being more out of the box thinking about that helipore?
0:56:12
So it's not including those who are just using it to go out to East Hampton or for tourism.
0:56:17
Is that something that is even in your thinking?
Mikelle Adgate
0:56:20
Yeah.
0:56:20
Thank you for the question, council member.
0:56:22
You are correct.
0:56:24
We can't speak specifically about responses that we have received.
0:56:28
But as you saw in the RFP that we put out, we very much clarified and specified that we are looking to integrate DMH into our broader marine highway network.
0:56:42
And so that was language that was in the RFP itself.
0:56:46
We talked a little bit about our goals from a sustainable transportation perspective.
0:56:52
And as you saw at the event that we did last fall, we had, you know, sort of demonstration project because we do think it's it's critical that we think of all of these assets from a variety of things.
Gale A. Brewer
0:57:07
Okay.
0:57:07
I'm maybe I know too much, which is often a problem.
0:57:10
But one of the RFP responses is for marine more than aviation and the other 2, I happen to know what they're saying, is much more aviation.
0:57:21
So I'm just saying, please, EDC, think outside the box when you respond to this thing.
0:57:27
Number 2, the 34th Street, Elaport.
0:57:30
That could be ended tomorrow.
0:57:33
If the city and the state decide that to do it together, that you don't want that helicopter teleport there.
0:57:39
The I will speak for the Hudson River Park Trust.
0:57:43
They would lose $1,700,000.
0:57:45
They're fine to do that.
0:57:46
Fine.
0:57:46
No problem.
