QUESTION

How many alleged or expected human rights law violations does the Equal Employment Practices Commission typically uncover and refer to other agencies?

The Equal Employment Practices Commission refers alleged human rights law violations to the Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) if uncovered during audits.

  • The Executive Director states they have referred 1-2 violations to CCHR
  • In one case, a violation was referred directly to the Law Department instead of CCHR
  • Normally, all potential violations are referred to CCHR unless special circumstances warrant going to the Law Department

How many expected or alleged human rights, law violations.
1:37:02
Do you typically uncover any reporting?
1:37:06
I don't know if this is something that you do or something that's more so related to the work of CCHR.
1:37:12
Like, I don't know if you're referring things to CCHR.
1:37:14
I know CCHR has its own challenges because they don't really provide oversight to city agencies.
Jeanne Victor
1:37:23
Right.
1:37:23
So so when it comes to human rights, law violations.
1:37:29
If we encounter something during the course of an audit, we will refer to CCHR.
1:37:36
I can think of 1 or 2 occasions when we've done that.
1:37:39
There was one occasion though that we became aware of a violation, and we went to the law department with that.
1:37:47
And it was a a violation that the law department was working on with the agency.
Nantasha M. Williams
1:37:53
So you sent it to CCHR, but, ultimately, did CCHR send it to the law department, or how did the law department get involved?
Jeanne Victor
1:38:00
Now for one of one of the violations that I learned of, I I sent it to the law department.
1:38:07
I call I contacted law law department to find out if anything was being done to address the violation.
1:38:14
And I was told that, yes, they were working on it because that particular agency was under the the auspices of a monitor, so they were working in concert together.
Nantasha M. Williams
1:38:28
But you're required are you required to refer things to CCHR by way of the okay.
1:38:33
Yes.
1:38:34
So just depends on what the things are, whether or not you refer to CCHR or the law department?
Jeanne Victor
1:38:40
No.
1:38:40
Normally, we would just refer everything to CCHR.
1:38:43
Okay.
