The council member asks about the coordination process between 311 and the open data platform, specifically regarding real-time data updates.

  • The deputy commissioner explains that 311 works hand-in-hand with the Office of Technology and Innovation's (OTI) data analytics team on the open data site
  • Two of the biggest and most popular datasets on the open data site are the 311 service request data and call center data
  • The service request data is updated on a daily basis through a closed-loop process
  • If there are any enhancements or issues, 311 has a direct connection with the team supporting the open data platform
  • Feedback is also received from public events focused on open data

I'm obviously very partial to the open data platform.
1:37:31
So that is based on 311 data.
1:37:34
So do you work with open data platform staff?
1:37:38
Is it completely separate?
1:37:39
How does the data go from 301 to the open data?
1:37:42
And, of course, there are issues there for real time.
1:37:45
Updating, so on and so forth.
1:37:47
So how does the coordination take place?
Joe Morrisroe
1:37:49
Great.
1:37:50
I do appreciate that question and give you a chance to kind of share how we're working in that.
1:37:53
And in the beginning, I mentioned the mayor's executive order that created OTI that brought 311 and what was the mayor's office of data analytics.
1:38:02
And now OTI's data analytics headed up by my colleague, Martha Norke.
1:38:06
We work hand in hand with that team on the open data site, 2 of the biggest datasets, the most popular datasets.
1:38:14
There's many popular ones as you know.
1:38:16
Our service request data from 3011 and then call center data.
1:38:20
Service request 1 is the most interesting for people because it's got location information and and other factors.
1:38:26
So that is something we do work with OTI.
1:38:29
It's kind of a it's a closed loop.
1:38:31
The process gets updated on a regular basis, on a daily basis.
1:38:35
If there's any enhancement, if there's any issue shoes.
1:38:38
We have a direct connection with the team that supports that.
Gale A. Brewer
1:38:42
Okay.
1:38:42
So you work with the team because there is a a box, so to speak, you can make complaints, and this is what needs to be improved.
1:38:49
So you and the other team work on trying to respond to those complaints.
1:38:54
Is that correct statement?
Joe Morrisroe
1:38:56
We we do with the processes to do that.
1:38:58
We do have access to that.
1:38:59
We also would have other access to get feedback from from the public.
1:39:03
As you know and I think you've participated in the past of a number of open data events is also kind of a hotbed to get feedback and get information.
1:39:10
So that's something we do as well.
1:39:11
But from a process perspective, yes, we work with the Open Data team.
Gale A. Brewer
1:39:15
Okay.
1:39:15
Thank you.
