The council member asks about the cleaning schedules for the Nostrand Avenue and Malcolm X Boulevard business corridors and if additional attention can be provided due to overflowing litter baskets and dirtier corridors.

  • The sanitation commissioner says they can provide the cleaning schedules for those corridors.
  • The city is running $22 million worth of litter basket service annually, reducing citywide overflow complaints by 42%.
  • However, if service needs to be improved on those corridors, council members can use discretionary funds for enhanced service.

Just, I guess, this is a pretty broad district related question, but it's in relation to 2 of our pretty busy business corridors, one on Notion Avenue and also Malcolm x Boulevard.
1:52:55
We've had to, I guess, move some of our supplementary sanitation services through ACE to other parts of the district.
1:53:04
And because of that, we've seen that there have been an increase in complaints of overflown litter baskets, as well as just dirtier corridors, especially in those 2 business districts.
1:53:16
I just wanted to to hear from you both on what the cleaning schedule looks like for for both of those corridors, as well as if there could be any additional amount of attention that be provided over there.

So we can get you information about and the for those two corridors about how often those baskets are are emptied.
1:53:38
We our cleaning office can get that to you today.
1:53:41
Mhmm.
1:53:42
Our our level of litter basket service that we run is at historical historic highs for the past 2 years.
1:53:53
We've been running $22,000,000 a year worth of litter basket service, which has decreased the number of complaints we've got and city wide by 42% for overflowing litter baskets.
1:54:09
But if we haven't gotten it right on 1 in 1 or 2 quarters, I'm interested to look with you at what the level of service is.
1:54:18
And if you need additional levels of service, some council members use their discretionary funds to fund enhanced service and and a specific corridor.
