  • Restler asks for a meeting to better understand the legal constraints that prevent using more appropriate comparables for assessments.
  • He highlights the plight of long-time residents being forced out of their homes due to rising property taxes.
  • Restler argues that the current system is creating communities that lack socioeconomic diversity and calls for more aggressive action to achieve equity.

I well, the chair has been incredibly gracious, in giving me this additional time, and I I think it's because he's even more passionate about this issue than I am.
3:45:19
And, so I'll, shut up.
3:45:22
But the, you know, I really would welcome the opportunity to meet with you and for you and your team to better explain what are those constraints in the law that don't allow for better comps to be used and better ways for us to make for a form create a formula that actually is is fair and reasonable because I don't I don't know what to tell my constituents who've lived in the community for 40 50 years who don't have a penny of mortgage that the reason they have to move out is because the property taxes have gone up so much that their maintenance has doubled, tripled in a period of a handful of years.
3:45:53
That is awful.
3:45:55
These are like members of our community who we cherish and value, and we are creating communities that lack socioeconomic diversity because of the inequities in our property tax system.
3:46:05
And I really do think that there are ways that you all could be more aggressive in achieving our shared goals of, socioeconomic diversity and inequity in our communities.
3:46:14
So thank you, and look forward to the follow-up.

And if I may, mister chairman, I'm just gonna say again, you know, the mayor has emphasized that he agrees that the property tax system as it's currently constituted is riddled with inequities and is not good for communities.
