- CUNY has recognized the problem and is taking steps to address it, such as developing a fellowship program for faculty
- Dvorkin recommends creating a transfer academy to scale up these efforts
- Current resources are insufficient to implement needed changes across all CUNY colleges
Eric Dinowitz
1:25:46
Yeah.
1:25:47
It was it was actually shocking to me when CUNY testified that, and you're I I mean, you heard them testify that educating faculty on sort of the the requirements and transfer that was, I guess, coming from the k 12 world as a teacher there, where it was very clear you need this many credits in each of these subjects to graduate.
1:26:07
I think things were a lot more aligned in the DOE than they are with CUNY.
1:26:11
Obviously, but that was one of the reasons it was so shocking to me.
1:26:16
And so when CUNY testified that part of their work is faculty education.
1:26:22
What are your thoughts on that?
Eli Dvorkin
1:26:24
Yeah.
1:26:24
I think I mean, first of all, I give CUNY a lot of credit for recognizing the problem, you know, and that's survey that was conducted by a CUNY faculty themselves revealed just how little faculty really know about transfer of CUNY.
1:26:35
You know, what I would say there is I think it's really important to note that CUNY is taking some steps right now to start to address this.
1:26:42
You know, developing a fellowship program for faculty to become more ex spurt and transfer.
1:26:47
That's absolutely the right idea, but right now we're talking about a handful of those fellows across 25 colleges and nearly 200,000 students.
1:26:56
So what I would say is the the approach is first of all, acknowledging the problem.
1:26:59
The approach is I think the right one.
1:27:01
We recommend creating a transfer academy.
1:27:03
I think you did here in that previous panel.
1:27:05
Support for the idea, I think what was going unsaid there is there just aren't sufficient resources right now to be able to do what I think is needed at scale.
1:27:12
To go from what's the right idea, a small cohort of, you know, CUNY faculty fellows to something that is embedded at every single college.
