The Deputy Commissioner explains that NYCDOT is generally aware of sidewalk conditions on NYCHA property.

  • NYCDOT responds to complaints about specific properties more quickly.
  • Each year, NYCDOT works with NYCHA to identify properties with the worst sidewalk conditions.
  • NYCDOT and NYCHA coordinate to include those properties in the sidewalk reconstruction program for that year.
  • Both agencies identify properties they want addressed and repairs are made accordingly.
