The First Deputy Commissioner explains that the cost varies based on project details like road width, underground utilities, and coordination between agencies like the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Department of Design and Construction (DDC).
- DOT often incorporates planted medians as part of larger roadway redesign projects
- Costs depend on the specific project scope and complications
- DOT does not have a simple flat rate cost estimate as each project is unique
- The department aims to provide a more detailed costing by coordinating with DDC

Okay.
1:35:26
Council member, first of all, we we totally share your desire to to have more green, to be more resilient.
1:35:32
First to make a comment on your first statement about different neighborhoods having more green or less green I wanted to point out that 1 recent approach that we've had with bringing greeneried in neighborhoods with our safety projects are in several corridors such as Grand Concourse, Atlantic Avenue, 4th Avenue that have also gone through disadvantaged neighborhoods, and we've brought white acres of green green greenery into those neighborhoods.
1:36:04
In terms of costs, we normally the way we do this is we work with DEP, maybe parks, and DDC to implement projects such as the ones you're proposing.
1:36:15
They're usually part of a larger project.
1:36:18
DP may do a standalone project to a resiliency project, but for DOT, they are often roadway redesign projects where we would install the planted medians.
1:36:29
Every project is different in terms of what it entails, the width of the road, the complications from underground utilities and the needs.
1:36:37
So I don't have an easy number to provide for you at this time, but we could see if we can put something together with DDC.
