Council Member Marmorato inquires about DEP's efforts to prepare communities in the East Bronx for future storms and climate change impacts, both within and outside the 100-year flood plain. DEP representatives discuss their approach to flood mitigation and climate resilience.

  • DEP working with other agencies on information dissemination for large coastal storms
  • Expansion of the Bureau of Resilience to work on coastal resilience
  • Development of public maps showing different flooding scenarios up to 2050-2080
  • Ongoing investments in stormwater management, including rain gardens
  • Commitment to continuous monitoring of sewer capacity and flood risks
  • Discussion on capital investments for sewer improvements and stormwater management

Okay.
1:53:34
And as we've seen over seen year over year flooding in the city does not merely impact the 100 year flood plan.
1:53:41
How is DEP working in the communities of the East Bronx to ensure that areas inside and outside of the 100 year flood plan?
1:53:50
Are adequately prepared for future storms and in climate weather.

1:53:54
Okay.
1:53:55
So for the flood plan, for that coastal flooding, I believe that you're speaking about.
1:54:01
And then there's also a 100 year storm, so I can talk about both of those a little bit.
1:54:05
So for the flood plan, We work closely with our colleagues at DOT, Office of Emergency Management, and other offices to get information out about large coastal storms that that come into the city and So that's a really important aspect of that.
1:54:27
We also are expanding the Bureau of Resilience, which DP was took took on, and that is working on coastal resilience.
1:54:38
So for more details on that, we can get back to on the coastal aspect of that in your district for storm water for the 100 years flood or 100 years storm rain storm.
1:54:51
That's pretty close to what we've modeled in our map.
1:54:55
We'd be happy to send you the it's a public map and anybody can view it and see the different scenarios going forward.
1:55:02
And we'd be very happy to share that with you and your staff to see, you know, where we're where we see flooding.
1:55:08
And then the investments that we're making and continue to make are to, you know, address those concerns.

1:55:16
