Council Member Kevin C. Riley inquires about the MTA's progress towards opening new Metro North stations by 2027. The MTA representative explains that they are currently evaluating the success of long-term outages negotiated with Amtrak, as the project is largely built within Amtrak's right of way.

  • The MTA is assessing the efficacy of two long-term outages to determine how close they are to the 2027 anticipated revenue service date.
  • Results of this evaluation are expected later in the year.
  • The project's timeline is dependent on negotiations with Amtrak for access and the ability to carry out work.

Thank you, council member.
1:55:22
Just a couple of more questions for MTA.
1:55:25
The MTA has previously stated that the new stations will come online in 2027.
1:55:30
Could you please briefly describe the work that still needed to be done to accomplish 2027 implementation?
UNKNOWN
1:55:37
Sure.
1:55:38
Thank you for the question.
1:55:40
As I mentioned previously, we're currently evaluating the success of the long term outage that we had previously negotiated with Amtrak.
1:55:48
If you recall, Amtrak is the owner and operator of the of way this project is being largely built with inside their right of way.
1:55:54
So we're beholden to Amtrak for access and the ability to do our work.
1:55:59
We had negotiated a the 1st long term outage, which took place last year, and we're in the midst of the 2nd long long term outage.
1:56:06
We're presently evaluating the success and efficacy of those 2 long term outages to see where we where things shake out.
1:56:13
So we'll have a better idea how close we are to that 2027 anticipated revenue service date sometime later this year.
1:56:21
At the at the result of that evaluation.
