Good morning, and welcome, everyone, to today's committee on Education vote on proposed introduction 11 8 a, sponsored by deputy Pika Ayala, a local law in relation to posting information and reporting undress code policies in New York City Public Schools.

And to appeal section 2 of such law upon expiration thereof.

We will consider resolution number 292 sponsored by council member Stevens, which call upon the New York City Department of Education to create an inclusive school dress code policy that complies with Title 9 of the Federal Education amendments Act.

The committee previously heard testimony on introduction 118 and Resolution 292 as part of a June 18th hearing on several pieces of legislation.

Since that hearing, several amendments were made to introduction 118 proposed introduction 118a would require that New York City Public Schools to post address code policies on its websites and report on dress code policies in New York City Public Schools, including information about whether each school has a dress code policy and data on dress code violations and penalties broken down by month, week, and student race and gender.

The report required in this bill would cease after 5 years.

The goal of the of Resolution 292 is to protect students from unfair enforcement of discriminatory and gender bias.

Dress code standards and schools to ensure that students are not subject to mistreatment or discrimination as a result of their clothing and to create school environments that are safer and more inclusive spaces for old young people.
