Diana Ayala, deputy speaker and Chair of the General Welfare Committee, opens the meeting by introducing two bills up for vote. The bills aim to improve the shelter intake process for families with children by removing the requirement for all family members to be present at intake and exploring partnerships with community-based organizations.

  • Proposed Intro 123-A would prevent DHS from requiring all family members to be present at the PATH intake center.
  • Proposed Intro 460-A would require DHS to report on the feasibility of partnering with community organizations for shelter intake applications.
  • Ayala acknowledges the current inefficiencies in the shelter application process, including long wait times and limited resources.
