Council Member Mercedes Narcisse questions James Wong from the NYC Economic Development Corporation about a study conducted for potential ferry service to the Canarsie area. Wong acknowledges the community's interest but states there are no current expansion plans.

  • A previous study from 2018-19 is available on the website
  • Narcisse expresses disappointment in the lack of expansion plans
  • Wong mentions that any future expansion would require re-evaluating the information from the previous study
Mercedes Narcisse
1:36:35
Thank you, Cheers.
1:36:36
Thank you.
1:36:37
Some of my questions already asked.
1:36:39
So thank you for that.
1:36:40
So I'm gonna come down instead of citywide coming back to my district.
1:36:47
I know that a study was done for Karnarcia Care.
1:36:51
Any information you can share, any update, but I'm let let me be honest.
1:36:56
I'm very disappointed because there is no plan to explain.
1:37:00
And I know there's a lot of communities throughout the city.
1:37:05
We have waterfront.
1:37:06
We can benefit from a ferry, but we're not getting any transportation there, and we need that.
1:37:13
So if you can share coming back to my question, any study was done for I mean, the study was done for Karnataka, so I want to know if there's any information that you can you can share with us.
1:37:25
Keep in mind too that There's many transportation days or, like, hours, like, to nursery area, and population are increasing.
1:37:37
So, therefore, we need to release some of the transportation problem that we're facing in the city of New York overcrowded.
1:37:47
So please, can you answer the colonoscopy question for me?
James Wong
1:37:51
Thank you, council member.
1:37:53
So as I had mentioned in my testimony, well, we don't have any current plans for expansion.
1:37:58
I do want to just make sure it's clear that we have heard and really appreciate the advocacy and enthusiasm that we've heard out of the Kenourcy Neighborhood through organizations on the ground, your advocacy as well.
1:38:10
We know and acknowledge that there are places where people are looking for additional service and where ferry service may be able to provide opportunities for different communities.
1:38:20
While we don't have a current expansion plan to talk about today, we are definitely aware and Konarsi has very much made itself known as those who are are really interested in the future of ferry service.
Mercedes Narcisse
1:38:33
So this study, I'm very much interested.
1:38:36
Do I have any information you can share on that study?
1:38:40
That was done.
James Wong
1:38:41
The previous formal study that was done was in 201819, which is available on the website, and we can provide that to you following the brief this conversation.
Mercedes Narcisse
1:38:52
Because I wanna know why we were not qualified because he was, like, I remember former mayor was very dedicated to make it happen.
1:39:00
And then just from one second, everything just changed on us, and we did not get that thing.
James Wong
1:39:10
Yeah.
1:39:11
I don't have more more to add to sort of the the prior administration, but I I will say just that in the prior study, there was an evaluation.
1:39:21
It talks about things like travel time and, you know, ridership opportunities from the Karnataka neighborhood.
1:39:31
If we were to look at expansion in the future, we will want a 100% take another look at the information that was provided there.
1:39:38
But as of right now, we don't have a current plan.
Mercedes Narcisse
1:39:41
Yeah.
1:39:42
As you can see, Gabriel from Flusti is not gonna be bit alone because we organize around here because we definitely, we can benefit from that.
1:39:50
So I thank you for your time.
1:39:52
Thank you too.
