James Wong explains the locations for vessel construction, maintenance, and repair for the NYC Ferry system.

  • All 38 vessels were built in shipyards in the Gulf region between 2015 and 2021
  • Current maintenance and repair primarily occur at the Brooklyn Navy Yard facility
  • Homeport II in Red Hook will provide additional maintenance capabilities, including a travel lift
  • The project aims to create maritime job opportunities and engage the local community

And in terms of you mentioned, I guess, the where where are the vessels for the ferry system being constructed currently?
James Wong
1:31:50
Yeah.
1:31:50
So all 38 vessels were were built somewhere in the gulf.
1:31:54
So there were 3 or 4 different shipyards that were utilized at the time.
1:31:59
They were built largely between 2015 2000, I think, about 21.
1:32:05
And so it was spread out over multiple shipyards, but they were all built in the south
Alexa Avilés
1:32:10
And in terms of maintenance and repair, where where does that happen?
James Wong
1:32:15
So maintenance current and repaired currently is mostly handled at our facility at PRC in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
1:32:22
It's been a really incredible opportunity to not just launch a ferry system, but basically build a small shipyard right there in the Navy Yard, which brings back, of course, all of these maritime routes and the ability to create a maritime pipeline for jobs.
1:32:35
Which we've been really proud of through the operator.
1:32:38
Similar facilities are going to be built in Redhook.
1:32:41
So at a homeport 2, the ability to pull a vessel out of the water that travel lift is one of the major assets that allows our operator to do that maintenance right there in in the place.
1:32:52
So we're looking forward because at home or 2, there will be maintenance opportunities, job opportunities, and lots of ways for people to engage with the system.
1:33:01
And
Alexa Avilés
1:33:03
lastly, chair office materials after 1.
1:33:05
For the the travel lift in homeport too is that what's the situation there?
James Wong
1:33:12
It will be similar to the one that we have in PERSEY.
1:33:14
Oh.
1:33:15
I don't know the exact details of it, but it's the same same intention as that.
1:33:19
Is a there's a basically, a a mobile crane that lifts the vessel up and pulls it up on 2 drives.
Alexa Avilés
1:33:25
Does that part yet built out?
