The Willoughby Hart Historic District was historically part of a community known as Cripple Busch, which developed in the mid-17th century. The area's development started slowly in the 1870s and was largely complete by the late 1890s.

The Willoughby Hardie Historic District was historically part of a community known as Cripple Busch, which developed in the mid 17th century along the historic Cripple Busch Road that connected the settlement of Bedford Corners to Newtown And Queens.

And the land immediately within the district was later part of Henry Bourne's property.

Development in this area started slowly in the 18 seventies with one group of houses on Willoughby that are mostly still intact.

The rest of the row houses in the district were designed, constructed, and planned by a small group of builders, owners, and local local Brooklyn architects such as Thomas D Greenland, Arthur Taylor, and Isaac Reynolds.

As you can see here in the 18 80 map in the center and the 18 89, 18 98 map on the left, by the mid 18 eighties, the blocks have been nearly fully developed.
