Council Member Lynn Schulman inquires about the possibility of locating the new Pavilion in another borough, such as Queens. Dr. Jeffrey Drebin explains why the current location was chosen.
- Schulman mentions MSK's presence at Jamaica Hospital in her district
- Drebin explains that all options for expanding clinical capacity were considered
- The Pavilion is described as an extension of the main hospital, not a freestanding facility
- Locating the Pavilion elsewhere would require it to be much larger to include all necessary services

So I have a question.
1:19:35
So Jamaica hospital is in my district.
1:19:38
And I'm very happy that you guys have a presence there.
1:19:41
Was any thought given to since you work with patients throughout the city to put the pavilion in another borough like Queens or so why?
Jeffrey Drebin
1:19:51
We actually looked at every option for expanding our clinical capacity.
1:19:55
And as I think we noted in the slide, the Pavilion isn't really a freestanding hospital.
1:20:00
It's an extension of the main hospital.
1:20:03
It doesn't have its own primary food service.
1:20:06
It doesn't have an emergency room or urgent care center.
1:20:09
It doesn't have many of the things that are on the other side of the street.
1:20:13
And so it couldn't to to be a freestanding hospital, it would need to be much bigger.
1:20:18
And So, really, this seemed the most efficient way.

1 of my patients is getting treated at Jamaica Hospital for her chemotherapy, and will be back to me for surgery in about 4 months.
