Good afternoon.
2:03:34
My name is Nicole Grogan, and I have lived in Yorkville for more than 25 years.
2:03:39
I appreciate the opportunity to speak with you on the importance of memorial Sloan Kettering and their new pavilion on the upper east side.
2:03:47
I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age forty four.
2:03:52
At the time, I was a busy wife and mom to my ten year old son active in my community and working full time.
2:03:59
My world immediately stopped and I contacted MSK because I knew they would develop a plan that immediately that would give me the best odds of survival.
2:04:09
My treatment over 10 months was comprehensive and included not only multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation, but also included social services and the opportunity to participate in groundbreaking research studies such as the effectiveness of exercise during chemotherapy.
2:04:30
All of this happened at MSK in Manhattan.
2:04:33
Their care was exceptional because they have the research, cutting edge treatment, and a culture of treating the whole person and their specific needs.
2:04:42
Fast forward nearly 7 years from diagnosis, I am a healthy and living a very full life with my husband, teenage son, and family.
2:04:52
As a patient and a caregiver to my mother who was treated at MSK in Manhattan for lung cancer, I have seen how intense cancer treatment is.
2:05:03
The need for high quality cancer care is urgent.
2:05:06
It's not something that can be scheduled for a convenient time, and no patient should ever be made to wait for treatment in this most vulnerable moment.
2:05:16
I do not see any negative residential impacts by MSK's plan.
2:05:21
The new MSK Pavilion is absolutely essential as it will allow for more patients like myself to receive exceptional care.
2:05:30
Thank you for your time.
