Tara Puri, a homeowner and parent of two children attending PS 183 Elementary School, testifies against the Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Pavilion Project due to concerns about its size and potential impacts on the neighborhood. She expresses worry about project mismanagement based on her experiences with other local construction projects.

  • Puri cites a 9-year infrastructure upgrade project outside her building as an example of prolonged construction disruption
  • She raises concerns about increased traffic, noise, and pollution affecting her children's health and safety
  • Puri questions whether accountability measures and community outreach promises will be followed through once the project is approved

Hi.
1:26:54
My name is Tara Puri.
1:26:56
I'm a homeowner at 1175 York Avenue, which is a three block vicinity south of the project.
1:27:03
I mean, I'm I'm a mother of 2 2nd grade children at the Adjacent School of PS 183 Elementary School.
1:27:10
I'm testifying against the PS the MSK Pavilion Project, mainly because of its size.
1:27:19
And, also, because
Kevin C. Riley
1:27:21
Sorry.
1:27:21
Can you just talk in the minds we could use?
Tara Puri
1:27:23
Yes.
1:27:23
Mainly because of its size, and I've lived through mismanagement of other projects locally in the area.
1:27:31
Most notably, the never ending infrastructure upgrade project that is taking place for over 9 years outside my apartment building.
1:27:41
If anybody on the council has spent any significant amount of time on the pavement as I do commuting, walking, etcetera, you will realize that this neighborhood is not currently in a state that we can sustain this size of the project that is about to be built.
1:28:03
The infrastructure project that I refer to outside the building is a infrastructure project that was started under Council member, Menin's predecessor, Ben Kalos, and it has been going on extended and extended for many, many years.
1:28:22
And my concern is, and I love all the the things that are outlined in terms of accountability here, and I'm happy to hear about these outreaches.
1:28:30
But my concern is is that once this project, if it gets approved, that once it's approved, These things won't be followed through on.
1:28:39
And my children who have been subjected to never ending noise outside our building, never ending traffic, an influx of traffic from all the hospitals in the area because quite frankly, the patients cannot afford to to to park at MSKK.
1:28:58
They come and they park in front of my building, in front of my the the the parking garages.
1:29:03
They they just can't do it.
1:29:05
So I'd I'd ask you to please consider the impact of now my seven year old children who are in the area and the the health and safety and the environmental noise and pollution of this project.
Kevin C. Riley
1:29:18
Thank you.
Tara Puri
1:29:19
Please accelerate the other projects that are happening.
Kevin C. Riley
1:29:21
Thank you, miss Dawn.
