Over the past 2 years, New York City reached an alarmingly high rate of pet surrenders following the surge in adoptions during the COVID 19 pandemic.

At the same time, the number of adoptions from ACC and other organizations has largely decreased.
0:02:40
In 2018, about 700 dogs were adopted per quarter from ACC shelters.

And in 2020, that number dropped to 180.

In the first quarter of 2024, there were little over 300 dog adoptions from ACC which is not even half the pre pandemic rate.

During that same period, ACC took in about 7 and a half 1000 animals, a 33% increase from 2021.
