- Exotic animals are partnered with specific rescue organizations for quick placement.
- ACC has a dedicated exotics room in their facilities.
- For senior animals, ACC focuses on matching them with adopters whose lifestyles suit older pets.
- Adoption counselors help potential adopters find the right pet based on their needs and lifestyle, regardless of the animal's age.
- ACC encourages potential adopters to keep an open mind about breed, size, and age when looking for a pet.

How does ACC manage cases involving exotic pets or animals not commonly kept as domestic companions.
1:01:52
And what happens to those animals that come into ACC's care?
Risa Weinstock
1:01:57
Exotic animals is any we consider anything other than a companion animal that can be adopted.
1:02:04
In many ways, those are the easiest cases to handle because we partner with very specific rescue organizations that take that type of animal.
1:02:18
I know that we if you were if you took the tour on Tuesday, I know you and I took a tour before that, there is a room that was created, the exotics room.
1:02:27
We had a duck in there on Tuesday.
1:02:28
So those move pretty quickly.
1:02:31
And we're very proud of those partnerships.
1:02:33
That's really helpful.

1:02:35
What special care protocols are in place for senior animals both during the time and the shelter and in efforts to find them adaptive or foster homes?
Risa Weinstock
1:02:43
Senior animals, just like young animals.
1:02:46
They're all animals.
1:02:48
They're all available for adoption.
1:02:49
And that's part of the adoption process and what Alex mentioned about the conversation.
1:02:55
Based on your lifestyle, a senior pet could be perfect.
1:02:59
For you.
1:03:00
This is a especially when we're talking about a dog, this is a dog that's not going to wanna go hiking.
1:03:05
If your lifestyle is such that a senior pet would be more suitable, we will direct you to senior pets.
1:03:12
You know, they are a little harder to place, I think.
1:03:14
I think a lot of people come in with the family, and they're looking for that lifelong companion.
1:03:20
But we have a lot of we don't really base it on age.
1:03:22
We really base it on what the suitable placement with your what are your needs for a pet?
Alexandra Silver
1:03:29
Can I piggyback on that?
1:03:30
I'm sorry.
1:03:31
Okay.
1:03:31
Just also about adoptions because connected with the lowering barriers and open adopt and why people might be running into problems.
1:03:38
I would just I just wanna take this opportunity to encourage anyone thinking of getting a pet to just keep an open mind, like Risa was saying, you know, don't come in with a specific age and mind or restriction, and it's the same with with breed or size.
1:03:52
You know, they might be running into issues because they're looking for a very specific kind of animal.
1:03:57
And if you have a conversation with a counselor who can help you meet the animal that has the right personality, the right lifestyle, the right requirements, for you.
1:04:05
So I just wanted to throw that.
Lynn C. Schulman
1:04:07
No.
