Hi.
3:42:46
Good afternoon.
3:42:47
My name is Jennifer Brooks.
3:42:48
Oh, my Okay.
3:42:51
Good afternoon.
3:42:52
My name is Jennifer Brooks.
3:42:53
I'm the founder and president of New York City Second Chance Animal Rescue.
3:42:58
We have been partners with animal care and control since 2009.
3:43:02
We've saved over 16,000 dogs and 5000 cats.
3:43:06
We just opened up a new shelter in Long Island City Queens or neighbors.
3:43:12
There's a lot of there's many problems.
3:43:14
It's a multifaceted problem.
3:43:16
The lack of low cost bay in Newder for even members of the public, our organization provides that for members of the public through our through our donations that we get.
3:43:28
We also have a safety net program to try to keep families and pets together.
3:43:32
When a medical crisis arises, we cover the medical bills for the pet owners.
3:43:38
So they there needs to be more programs like that available to the public in the city.
3:43:43
We're just a, you know, a small organization.
3:43:47
ACC used to have a program called SafetyNet.
3:43:50
A lot of the things that they spoke about today.
3:43:53
I don't as a as a well versed rescuer, I was not aware of those programs that they have.
3:44:00
Also, I am a former New York City school teacher, and I believe that humane education in the classroom is a huge huge issue.
3:44:08
It's not being taught.
3:44:09
It's in the New York City School curriculum, and it's not it's up to the principal if they want to do it or not.
3:44:15
But unless we educate the future and give the students the tools and the information that they need, this cycle is just gonna keep on going.
3:44:24
So there needs to be a lot of work done, and hopefully we can all come together for the animals because they need all the help they can get.
