Megan Ahearn, Program Director at NYPIRG, outlines their organization's broad approach to engaging students in civic activities across various issues and disciplines.

  • NYPIRG offers service-based projects, including voter registration and a small claims court action center
  • The organization covers a wide range of issues, including higher education funding, hunger, homeless outreach, environment, mass transit, and consumer protection
  • NYPIRG aims to provide a 'home' for students interested in any civic issue
  • The organization focuses on training students in fundamental organizing tactics and skills that can be applied to any issue during and after their education

Yeah.

And we also we have service based projects.

The voter registration is c housed within, like, the public service kind of thing.

We also have a small claims court action center where prelaw students counsel people going through the small claims score on the procedures of of civil courts and the goods drives that I mentioned before, but it's very broad.

And so whatever issue a student is interested in, there's typically a home for them in Iperg.

But also the part of the dual mission is to train students on the bread and butter organizing tactics and skills that can be unleashed on any issue, postgraduation, or or even during school, that any issue that is important to them.
