Council Member Kevin C. Riley inquires about infrastructure issues, particularly a sinkhole, near the proposed development site. Neil Weisbard and Steve Wygoda respond, explaining past efforts to address the issue with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and detailing the causes and proposed solutions for the sinkhole problem.

  • The sinkhole resulted from improper drainage and water seepage under the curb.
  • Previous attempts to fix the issue were unsuccessful due to the proposed development plans.
  • The new project plans include proper drainage and street beautification to resolve the problem.

It is my understanding of some infrastructure issues.
0:34:54
I believe you touched on that a little bit in your presentation at or around the proposed sites such as a sinkhole.
0:35:01
How how are you working with CDADC such as d DLT to address these issues?
Neil Weisbard
0:35:06
So we reached out to DOT.
0:35:10
It's about 2 well, the app has been working with DOT.
0:35:12
But 2 years ago, I I was personally involved and reached out to DOT to see if we could get this repaired.
0:35:18
And DOT didn't wanna do any work because of the proposed developments.
0:35:22
The pro's improvements to 12th Avenue.
0:35:24
So once DOT moves ahead, we're willing to work with them and get the sink all fixed.
0:35:29
And, Steve, you may have some information on the sink all as a sink
Steve Wygoda
0:35:31
all as well.
0:35:32
Okay.
0:35:33
Shlomo, what?
0:35:34
Steve Wigoda.
0:35:35
I've been practicing.
0:35:37
Architecture for 53 years in New York and been in front of this committee for a long time.
0:35:44
The second call was a result of improper drainage.
0:35:47
The and I worked on this building for about 20 years, and I designed the restaurants with bugs, etcetera, all of whom failed.
0:35:57
The owner of the building because of what used to come down 12th Avenue, it there was no drainers used to run right into the into the store, so he dug some trenches of going the base of the the base of the curb, which allowed the water to seep underneath.
0:36:15
So it create it eroded the soil underneath.
0:36:19
Well, we went to take some boorries and anticipation of this.
0:36:23
They collapsed.
0:36:24
This project will cure all of those things.
0:36:27
So Peter, who owned the building, who I know well, tried, but we're gonna do proper drainage.
0:36:33
We're gonna do everything that's required.
0:36:35
We're gonna beautify the street.
0:36:37
I'm gonna make this a successful project that for my 20 years working with a number of users and would would transform this building, this area to something that's really good for the community in many different ways.
0:36:56
We really hope I've been working on this building for years.
0:36:59
Really hope that that the council would support it.
0:37:05
Thank you.
