- FDNY has 32 boats in total, with 3 full-time units and 3 seasonal boats deployed from May to November
- Boats are strategically located around the city, including Staten Island, Brooklyn, and Queens
- The effectiveness of boat placement is considered, taking into account factors such as access to open water

So in your in the in your testimony chief, you said that there are 32 boats that you have in the command.
0:17:29
So how are those resources deployed?
0:17:32
Are they deployed city wide?
0:17:33
Are they kind of in a in a station and they're they're called out?
0:17:36
How how are they deployed when you need a water rescue that would need a boat?
Malcolm Moore
0:17:40
So we we have 32 boats in the fleet, but in actuality, the the in service units.
0:17:47
We have 3 full time units, marines, 1, 6, and 9.
0:17:51
And then we have 3 seasonal boats that we put in off of Brooklyn, off of throg's neck and queens, and a second boat off of Staten Island.
0:18:05
So during the during the months of May to November, we we have 6 full time boats in service.
0:18:11
The other boats are boats waiting to change based on the the the scale of an incident.
Joann Ariola
0:18:18
And and they're held where they're they're deployed.
0:18:20
I don't know if I missed it.
Malcolm Moore
0:18:21
Well, they deployed they're deployed from Century Fire.
Joann Ariola
0:18:25
From Central.
0:18:26
Right.
0:18:26
Okay.
0:18:26
So they're not, like, Right.
Malcolm Moore
0:18:28
But marine 6 is in the marine yard.
0:18:30
Marine 1 is is on the lower west side.
0:18:33
Marine 9 is out in Staten Island.
0:18:35
Marine 3 is out in Brooklyn, 4 is out in the truck that Queen's, that section of Queen's.
0:18:45
And A
Joann Ariola
0:18:45
portion of it is.
Malcolm Moore
0:18:47
Say again?
Joann Ariola
0:18:47
A portion of it's Queen's.
0:18:48
You're right.
Malcolm Moore
0:18:49
Yeah.
0:18:49
Right.
0:18:49
Right.
0:18:49
That's that is the waters right there.
0:18:51
It's right there from from the Bronx.
0:18:53
Yeah.
0:18:53
For titans, what
Joann Ariola
0:18:54
I I asked that question because we do have a firehouse right on on the canal in Howard Beach in in District 32.
0:19:00
Yes.
0:19:00
And we have a we have an NYPD boat there, but we don't have a fireboat.
0:19:03
So you just wonder because we there are so many water rescues Yes.
0:19:07
Along the Rockaway Peninsula.
0:19:08
I just think you might wanna just put make a note.
0:19:10
Maybe that's a place where we could station something.
Malcolm Moore
0:19:13
So interestingly enough, just to just to answer, we've we've had conversations and discussions about that area.
0:19:21
The only problem there is the amount of time it takes for them to get out of the canal into the water.
0:19:26
So really hasn't proven to be as effective as the boat responding out of the Brooklyn location going towards the Rockies.
