- Bello suggests an oversight hearing to improve the VAB's effectiveness
- They discuss the current requirement for VAB meetings in all five boroughs
Robert F. Holden
1:25:03
Thank you, Joe.
1:25:05
Just a question on the serving on the the VAB 6 years.
1:25:10
How did you arrive at 6 years?
Joe Bello
1:25:12
Well, I mean, so I served for 7.
1:25:16
And to be honest with you, the last year, I had already been telling the the former chair at that time that I served 1 year too many.
1:25:23
If we go by the terms are 3 year 3 year terms, then 2 terms is 6 years.
Robert F. Holden
1:25:27
Yeah.
1:25:28
The the the only thing is a volunteer position.
1:25:30
That's why I I I tend to shy away from term limits for volunteers.
1:25:37
It's actually sometimes counterproductive because you're telling people, thank you for your service.
1:25:42
Goodbye.
Frederick Hart
1:25:43
I think
Joe Bello
1:25:43
I think if I may though, there are you know, when I I go around to the community, there are a lot of people who are interested in the Veterans Advisory Board.
1:25:50
Would like to serve on the veterans and have questions about how the individuals get involved.
Robert F. Holden
1:25:55
That's yeah.
1:25:55
Again, I I appreciate that.
1:25:57
That's why we should evaluate if people are showing up on the VAB, if they're participating, if they're it's somebody has to evaluate it.
Joe Bello
1:26:04
Well, the other thing I would recommend then too is, recurrently, the the law requires the VAB to meet once in all five boroughs.
1:26:12
I can tell you, for my time, that's clearly not working, and I think you've seen that as well when you've come online.
1:26:17
So this is why I'm asking for perhaps, you know, to have an oversight hearing on the VAB.
Robert F. Holden
1:26:22
That's a good that's a good situation.
Mount Lacey
1:26:23
To have
Joe Bello
1:26:24
to have that discussion about how we can make the VAB better.
Robert F. Holden
1:26:26
Very good.
1:26:27
Thank you.
