Volunteer pillar: Veteran Voices Project and ETS Sponsorship Program

Commissioner Hendon describes two additional volunteer programs: the Veteran Voices Project (VVP) and the ETS Sponsorship Program.
- The Veteran Voices Project is an oral history initiative preserving stories of New York City's veteran community.
- VVP recordings are archived and made publicly available, with plans to provide over 80 recordings to the Library of Congress.
- The ETS Sponsorship Program, rebranded as Onward Ops, connects transitioning service members with trained volunteer mentors to support their reintegration into civilian life.

VVP is an oral history initiative designed to preserve the stories of New York City's veteran community.

After being trained and provide it with suggested questions by storytellers, volunteers collect the oral histories of veteran and veteran family members.

Those histories are then archived by DVS and the municipal archives.

Recording are publicly available on SoundCloud and the NYC DBS veteran voices project series on artifact.
