NYCHA maintains low eviction rates compared to other public housing authorities and the citywide average. Eviction is used as a last resort after exhausting all other options to resolve tenant issues.

  • Eviction rate of 0.12% in the 2024 fiscal year, down from 0.3% in 2019
  • Majority of evictions involve high arrears, averaging more than $15,000 in 2024
  • Nearly 70,000 households (almost half) are in arrears, with an average of $6,915 owed
