Ya-Ting Liu introduces a new Google Map layer that helps people locate public restrooms across New York City. This tool aims to improve accessibility and convenience for residents and visitors.

  • The map identifies public restrooms in parks, plazas, train terminals, libraries, and privately owned public spaces.
  • The map has already received 5,500,000 views and can be accessed at nyc.gov/restrooms.
  • Liu expresses interest in working with Google to integrate this information directly into Google Maps for easier access.

We published this Google map layer that identifies all public restrooms and parks, plazas, train terminals, libraries, privately owned public spaces to help people find a nearest restroom when they have to go, when they're on the go.

And council member, the nurse, we would love to work with you to maybe go to Google and get them to just put this information automatically on the Google Maps to open it as opposed to this layer, which I recognize is this sort of extra step that sometimes is difficult for people to access easily on their phone.
